WGSH - Before and After

The Jennings County Preservation Association took on the huge task of renovation with very little funding. With persistence and perspiration the group finally achieved their goal in 1995.

The Preservation Association was awarded the Servaas Memorial Award from the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana. The Servaas Memorial Award is "annually presented by the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, provides one of the largest monetary awards  given for historic preservation in the United States. The prize recognizes outstanding programs that increase public awareness and support for the preservation of Indiana's architectural heritage."

Today the school is used annually by local and regional youth for educational functions.  Often students dress in period clothing and get a hands on experience of early Indiana history.

Indiana History Being Celebrated at the WGSH

The facility can be opened for group or individual tours during Visitor Center hours. Interpretive displays are being created for the school. Currently there is a nice library of early Indiana school books to help send you back in time.
